12 Way Competition Information

It’s like 8-way only BIGGER!
4-way, 8-way, 16-way and now: ‘12-way The Missing Dive Pool’

Skydive Airkix are to run the first ever 12-way competition to be held in the UK this summer. The competition dates are 19th & 20th July 2008.
The full 12-way dive pool was first conceived and trailed at Sibson in September 2007 by Dave Lewis, and it is now the plan for Skydive Airkix to run a ‘proof of concept’ competition this season, before hopefully turning the concept into an international event for 2009.
This year’s competition is open to a maximum of 6 teams and will be set over 6 rounds. Unlike other competitions were the Blocks and Random’s are known but the sequence they are to be used is not known until the draw takes place the night before the competition. The draw for 12-way is to be released on the 1st of May 2008, and this will allow teams not only time to work on the mechanics, but also to practice the actual skydives if they so wish. This approach will mean that teams will be able to compete at there full potential and demonstrate their very best flying.
The 12-way dive pool is a copy of the current 8-way dive pool just made bigger with the inclusion of 4 more skydivers. This dive pool is designed to give the more experienced skydiver a new challenge, while sticking to a known format. See the dive pool here.
Unlike the 16-way Dive Pool (which was abandoned by the FAI/IPC in 2005) 12-way + camera is a good fit to nearly all the turbine aircraft currently in use in the UK. 12-way offers a chance for 4-way and 8-way teams that may train along side each other to work together as one bigger unit.
Using the dive pool of the 8-way many of the builds and moves use the same techniques as those practiced in their chosen discipline. It also offers regular bigger way flyers an opportunity to compete in their chosen activity. To attract teams to this inaugural event, we have set a low jump price at just £200 per team per round. The registration fee, at less than £4 a head (£50 a team), will provide for medals and some fun entertainment on the Saturday night.

Competitors should see this as a fun event, designed to prove that 12-way is fun and that the competition format works.
