Wingsuit Coaching & Load Organising
So you want to make that first Wingsuit flight? You’ve found the right place. Skydive Airkix is home to the UK members of the BIRDMAN Factory Skyflying team – Top Gun.
Top Gun is a team made up of highly skilled jumpers from all over Europe and is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of human flight, continually striving to take Wingsuit flying to the next level.
All of the team are qualified Bird Man Instructors and are available year round for first flight courses, coaching, camera work, load organizing, demos and air show displays.
Dedicated, video equipped, classroom and debriefing facilities along with a number of demo suits for you to learn in, or for the experienced pilot, to try something with a bit more performance.
If you haven’t made your first flight yet, we offer a complete first flight course, which includes a detailed briefing on the ground, in air coaching and a full video debrief. We can provide you instruction in either your own suit, or we have a number of demo suits suitable for beginners which can be rented.
Don’t worry if you don’t yet meet the minimum jump requirements, we can still give you a first flight course without the suit, so that you can practice the skills needed for wingsuit flying so that you’re fully prepared for when you do.
If you’ve already made your first flight, we offer coaching for any level of pilot, taking you through our instructional programme working on the skills you need for flocking, acrobatics and performance flight. Just let your instructor know what you want to focus on, and we can tailor the programme for you.
We also offer group coaching and load organizing by request, so if you have a group of wingsuit flyers that just want advice on how to jump safely together on some cool jumps, let us know.
Skydive Airkix is the home of wingsuiting in the UK and on a regular jumping day we have a good number of wingsuit jumpers building flocks. If you have a wingsuit, come on down and we’ll get you jumping!
For WS coaching you will need to buy an Airmix ticket, then coaching fees should be arranged between yourself and your independant coach.
Minimum Requirements
The minimum jump requirements for Wingsuit Flying are 500 jumps, or 250 in the last 18 months at CCI’s discretion.
Equipment
There are a number of Wingsuit manufacturers out there but you must get a brief with a qualified Wingsuit instructor before you can fly any of them. When you fly a Wingsuit your flexibility is limited and your vertical speed will be reduced from approximately 120 mph to 30-60 mph with increased horizontal speed. Therefore it’s important to have the correct equipment. Ask your instructor’s advise if you are unsure. Use a canopy that you are comfortable with, preferably one that opens on-heading as you are unable to grab your toggles on opening. Non elliptical canopies are recommended. It’s also advisable to use BOC throwaway deployment and NOT Pull-out or an elastic collapsible pilot chute.
